Birding Swan Lake Nature Sanctuary 

Meet at 8:00 a.m. Birding is always productive at Swan Lake, which is one of the top 10 hotspots in the region on eBird. 

DIRECTIONS: If travelling east on MacKenzie Avenue, take a right on Rainbow Road, left at Ralph Street, at right at Swan Lake Road to the parking lot entrance. If travelling west on MacKenzie Avenue, turn left onto Nelthorpe Street, right at Sevenoaks Road, left at Rainbow Road, left at Ralph Street, and right at Swan Lake Road to the parking lot entrance. 

Once again, the Friends of Shoal Harbour (FOSH) is offering informal 90-minute boat tours exploring the shorelines of Tsehum Harbour and Roberts Bay at the north end of the Saanich Peninsula. 

TOUR LENGTH: 90 minutes 
BOAT: Enclosed, 12-person capacity 
LOCATION: Meet at Canoe Cove Marina on thenorth part of the Saanich Peninsula – Dock E

On the guided outingguests will learn about the history of the federalShoal Harbour Migratory Bird Sanctuary(SHMBS), and see a variety of migratory birdsas well as other ocean-related animals.

 Birding Esquimalt Lagoon 

Meet at 8:00 a.m. This trip will cover the birds in the open ocean, inside the lagoon, and may go into the fields behind the lagoon for additional species. 

DIRECTIONS: Esquimalt Lagoon is in Colwood on Ocean Boulevard, off the Old Island Highway. Meet and park near the bridge.

Birding Witty’s Lagoon 

Meet at 8:00 a.m. The trail at Witty’s Lagoon drops quickly via a scenic waterfall and to the beach. Enjoy spring migrants and possibly some shorebirds, along the estuary and in the salt marsh behind the beach. 

DIRECTIONS: Meet at the main parking lot off Metchosin Road, across from the golf course.
