Volunteering with Nature Victoria can be very rewarding

Program and event volunteer opportunities
  1. Lead field trips on a variety of subjects

You don’t have to have a PhD in the subject matter, but you do need to be familiar with the area, know the fundamentals of the topic and be comfortable with answering questions. But, if you don’t know the answer to every questions, don’t worry! Often one of the other participants does! Please write to volunteers@naturevictoria.ca

  2. Help with our Outreach Programs

Participating in community events is one of the best ways for us to let people know who  we are and what we do. People, especially kids, love our hands-on collections of skins, skulls and other nature items. It’s also a great way to attract new members. Events we usually attend include Camas Day, World Oceans’ Day, and the Capital Regional District’s fall Hawk Watch at East Sooke Park. Please write to volunteers@naturevictoria.ca

  3. Coordinate one of our evening program series

From September to April we offer evening programs to our members and guests on birds, marine life, general natural history, and botany.. Coordinators are needed to host these series and to line up speakers. It’s a big job, but an integral part of what we do. There is lots of help and experienced people to guide you if you consider taking this on! Please write to volunteers@naturevictoria.ca

  4. Help us to find speakers for our Marine, Botany, Birds and Natural History nights. Please write to volunteers@naturevictoria.ca

And of course, take part in – and help organize – the annual Christmas Bird Count

Currently Nature Victoria is NOT active in conservation and restoration work in  the field, but there are many organizations in the area that do this. See a partial list of such organizations.

Nature Victoria is a member of Volunteer Victoria and our volunteer opportunities can be found on their website as well:  https://volunteervictoria.bc.ca/
